Weiss Bands

Weiss Bands is dedicated to creating an extraordinary musical experience for high school students.

Our aim is to transform the way young individuals engage with music, providing a platform for them to showcase their talent and passion.

Ian Young is in his 10th year in public education and his third year at Weiss High School. Before joining Weiss High School, Mr. Young was the Assistant Director of Bands at Burnet High School in Burnet, Texas.

During this time, Burnet High School made multiple state marching band appearances and achieved a third-place finish in 2020. Before Burnet, Mr. Young was the Assistant Director at Ropes High School in Ropesville, Texas, during which time the Ropes band received a second-place finish at the state marching contest. Mr. Young started his teaching career in Lexington, Texas, as the Assistant Director, helping the band earn superior ratings for the first time in several years.

In 2011, Mr. Young marched tuba with the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps in their production of “Juliet.” In 2018, Mr. Young was a tech for the Weiss Band program and assisted the band in earning their first BOA Super Regional finals appearance in St. Louis, Missouri.

Originally from Austin, Texas, Mr. Young attended Blinn Junior College and Texas Tech University, where he received his Bachelor’s in Music Education. Mr. Young studied tuba under Dr. Kevin Wass (Texas Tech) and Mr. Larry Campbell (Blinn College), as well as conducting from Dr. Eric Allen (Texas Tech). Mr. Young's professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association, and Kappa Kappa Psi, a national honorary band fraternity.

Mr. Young currently resides in Leander, Texas, with his wife, Jennifer, and their three children.

Emely Chacon is the assistant director of the Weiss Band, where she began her career in 2022. She oversees all aspects of the woodwind program, private lessons, and directs the Symphonic Band.

Ms. Chacon is a native Texan from San Antonio. She attended Texas State University, where she received her Bachelor of Music Education. During her time at Texas State, Ms. Chacon studied clarinet with Dr. Vanguel Tangarov. She gained experience performing with various ensembles such as the Texas State Symphonic Winds, Bobcat Marching Band, Texas State Clarinet Choir, and other small ensembles.

Prior to her position at Weiss, Ms. Chacon worked for numerous schools in the central Texas area as a private lesson teacher and marching band instructor. Ms. Chacon student taught at Tex Hill Middle School and Fox Run Elementary School in North East ISD

Ms. Chacon's professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, National Band Association, and International Clarinet Association.

Outside of music Ms. Chacon enjoys spending time with family, traveling, playing video games, and being active.

Hunter Langhans has been the Percussion Director at Weiss High School since 2022. Before joining the team at Weiss, he spent two years as the Percussion Director for Greenville ISD, and one year as the Assistant Percussion Director at Grapevine High School.

A native of New Bern, North Carolina, Mr. Langhans graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from the University of North Texas, where he studied under Mark Ford, Christopher Deane, Paul Rennick, and Michael Drake. While at UNT, Mr. Langhans performed with numerous ensembles, including the UNT Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Green Brigade Marching Band, and PASIC champion UNT Snare Ensemble. He was also a snare drummer for the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps.

Mr. Langhans has worked for numerous award-winning programs in the North Texas area, including Birdville HS, Lovejoy HS, Newman Smith HS, and the WGI Scholastic World Finalist, Burleson Centennial Indoor Drumline. Prior to graduation, Mr. Langhans student-taught at Rick Reedy High School and Pioneer Heritage Middle School in Frisco ISD.

Mason Clark is entering his first year in public education and is excited to begin teaching at Weiss High School! Mr. Clark graduated with his Bachelor's degree in Music Education from The University of Texas at Austin and completed his student teaching at Vandegrift High School and Four Points Middle School in Leander ISD. Mr. Clark also works with the Boston Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps as a member of the brass staff.

At The University of Texas, Mr. Clark studied under Charles Villarrubia, Robert Duke, and Amy Simmons. During his time at UT, he performed with tall of the large ensembles on campus, including the UT Wind Ensemble under the direction of Jerry Junkin, Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Farkhad Khudyev and Opera under the direction of Douglass Kinney Frost. In addition to that, he has competed in international competitions both as a solo artist and with his chamber quartet, the Birkenstock Brass.

Mr. Clark began his career with the Boston Crusaders in 2019 as a performing member. He marched for 5 season, from 2019-2023, and served as the Horn sergeant in his final season as a member.  In 2024, Mr. Clark joined the instructional team of the Boston Crusaders as a member of the brass staff.

In his free time, Mr. Clark enjoys hiking, cooking, drinking coffee, and watching Texas sports. Hook 'em!

Landy Wyatt Roberson (they/them) is a Color Guard Designer, Choreographer, and Instructor currently living in Austin, TX. They are stoked to be entering their fourth year with the Weiss Bands, and are so proud of the team and culture being built within the Color Guard program.

Landy began their marching arts career as a clarinetist and the Head Drum Major of the Mountain Home High School Marching Band from Mountain Home, AR. Immediately upon graduating, Landy spent 9 years performing at the World Class level, with DCI and WGI units such as the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps, The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, Cypress Independent Winterguard, and Invictus World Guard. While marching, Landy began teaching color guard at 18, and has been all over the United States since in various roles. Apart from a variety of high school programs, Landy has notably worked with River City Rhythm Drum and Bugle Corps, Invictus World Guard, Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps, and mentored under Jon Vanderkolff as a part of the Bluecoats Fellowship Program.

When Landy isn't teaching, they enjoy spending time with their cats, Peanut and Simba, playing Pokémon, and participating in dance & cultural events around the greater Austin area.
