Brian Edwards

Assistant Director - Cele Band

Brian Edwards is a native of the Carolinas.  Born in Charlotte, N.C. and raised in Irmo, S.C.  He received bachelors degrees from Louisiana State University in tuba performance and music education.  Following his time in Louisiana, Mr. Edwards moved to Austin, Texas.  There he taught band at the middle and high school levels at Clint Small Jr. Middle School and Austin High School.  After several years as a performer and educator in Texas, Brian moved north to earn a Masters in Tuba Performance at Pennsylvania State University and Doctoral Studies at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.

Mr. Edwards joined the staff at Cele for our first year in 2013.  It all started when he called Mrs. Humphrey, whom he knew from teaching in AISD, to recommend one of his college students for the position.  Mrs. Humphrey was able to convince Mr. Edwards that he was meant to teach at the middle school level.  She was right and the rest is wonderful history!

As a performer, Mr. Edwards has placed in the finals and as winner of many different international competitions and has been featured as a concerto soloist in the wind ensemble and orchestral mediums.  Here in Austin, Mr. Edwards holds the position of Principal Tuba with the Austin Opera Orchestra and is a regular performer for the Austin Symphony and Austin Symphony Brass Quintet.
